Congrats Mary Geist!

Scholarship Grant Recipient

Mat-Su Sertoma Club is pleased to announce Mary Geist is the recipient of the 1st annual Jim Vrooman Educational Exchange Scholarship Grant. Mary graduated with honors from Colony High School and will be graduating from Boise State University with honors this year having achieved a Bachelor in Psychology with a Pre-Med emphasis, as well as a minor in French Business.

She will be traveling on a medical mission internship to Cape Town South Africa where she looks forward to sharing the importance of hearing health and the mission of Sertoma with the professionals and indigenous people she is working with. Her ultimate goal is to attend medical school and return to Alaska to serve this community as a Psychiatrist.

Jim Vrooman was a Mat Su Sertoma Club member who exemplified volunteerism and grace.  In addition to authoring “The Times of My Life”, he also served on the Wasilla Area Senior Center board of directors.  In honor of his example and leadership within the community, the Mat Su Sertoma Club wanted him to be remembered through this annual grant.
